The Wolverines in a hard fought battle fell by one point to the Sherman Park Bulldogs of New York (7-6). In the closest game of this year's 2002 Pop Warner Super Bowl so far, the Jr. Pee Wee Bulldogs from Sherman Park, NY squeaked past the never-say-die Wolverines from East Bay, CA this morning by a score of 7-6. The Bulldogs scored first on a TD run of five yards with 9:25 to go in the second quarter. A one point conversion made the score 7-0 Sherman Park. That one point conversion would loom large as the game progressed.

With both defenses putting pressure on the ball, the Wolverine and the Bulldog offenses suffered costly fumbles that ended several good drives. The first half ended with the 'Dogs up 7-0.

That same defensive battle continued into the second half. But with 1:17 left in the 3rd quarter, the Wolverines struck back on a long drive capped by a two yard run to narrow the margin to 7-6. Then, a fired up Bulldog defense snuffed the extra point attempt to preserve the narrow lead.

Late in the game the Wolverines recovered a Bulldog fumble and drove deep into Sherman Park territory. But, with rainy conditions, the fumble-bug was out today, and the Wolverines returned the favor with their own errant hand-off. An alert Bulldog defense pounced on the ball to end the game at 7-6 Sherman Park.

For Coach Herb Hall of the Wolverines, it was a tough loss, "But our kids played well. They're just learning, we just try to help them out. And our fans were great. They all came out from the Bay Area to support the teams and the cheerleaders. It's a great week for us."

The Wolverines move to consolation play on Friday - at 9:00 a.m. Best of luck to both clubs!

A terrible tragedy happened a year ago. Many lost their lives, many have been physically, mentally and emotionally wombed. Everyone in America has been affected by the incident. Yet we still have much to be thankful for. Thankful for the survivors. Thankful for the babies who have been born to mothers who lost husbands on that day. Thankful for all the prayers that have been prayed. Thankful for the volunteers then and now and the employees of the many organizations who support disaster programs. Thankful that our nation was not wiped out and that we still stand as a strong nation.

However ... we still need prayer today. Pray for our president who has some serious decisions to make. Pray that his advisors and cabinet are God fearing and God seeking people. Pray that he himself will seek God on the decision regarding war with terrorist nations. Proverbs 11:14 says "For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisers make victory sure." And if someone knows how to get a message to the president - share with him this Proverb: "Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free." Proverbs 11:21

We live in a dangerous time. We all need prayer and we all need to pray. The September 11th incident changed many things on the outside ... what we really need is a change of heart.
